SAP Definition

SAP, expanded to Systems, Applications and Products (primarily named asSysteme, Anwendungen, Produkte in Latin linguistic) is a product which entrails several applications that deals with the management and administration of enterprise and its resources. Hence, it is classified as one of the core ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) applications that are available today in the market.

It is a primary product of a German software company called SAP AG. The SAP is compatible with all forms of the systems, although the very first versions of SAP were only designed to run on the main-frame or the super computer. Moreover these primary releases were referred as R1 and R2. With the passage of time the compatibility issues that underlined SAP applications were eradicated and its applications were embraced by manifold and multifarious companies, firms, businesses and organizations. Today even the likes of Microsoft and IBM have opted for SAP without any reluctance or haste. Not to be unstated the very basic thought behind the creation of SAP; it was to create such an application which could be shared with all other companies and serves as a mutual platform to bring the most essential interaction at ease.

SAP modules are intended to deal with different aspects of commerce and trade. There are modules that could better serve the controlling (CO) and financial accounting (FI), whereas there are units that could come pretty handy with regard to the material management (MM), Human Resources (HR) and then financial supply chain management (FICM). Besides these, here are many more other aspects.

In the beginning of 2000s SAP AG renamed the SAP, it was henceforth called as mySAP (the reasons for this were not made known, or rather there were no such particular reasons). Soon SAP released it most updated version of the application which was called as ECC or the Enterprise Core Component. It was more well-known with its abbreviation as compared to the expanded or the augmented form. ECC was further divided into diverse versions, e.g. ECC 6.0. The most recent tactics of SAP involves the release of Enhancement packs which improves and updates the previous versions of applications. This has also meant that SAP no more releases its new versions of software at a rapid rate (and instead rely upon the Enhancement packs). The packs are designed to upgrade the previous versions by all means which includes the surging of the compliance of them.

SAP is primarily distributed into manifold and diverse modules each designed for separate tasks, functionalities and errands. The SAP jobs are regarded as lucrative and those which can guarantee high reward to the employees. The much broader classification of these components could be effectually done as functional modules and the technical modules. Those who opt for the training of any specific functional modules are better recommended to have a certain amount of experience in domain. Some holds a view that technical modules of SAP are most suited for a general individual. All in all, this is a matter of diverse opinions.
